3D SEASON HAS BEGUN
February 22, 2008
The Slush Shoot in January was a successful kick off to the 2008 3D season, what a great turn-out! There was a good amount of snow on the ground but die-hard shooters still had a great time! It was great seeing our buddies from last season and some new faces as well. The animals were strategically placed throughout the snow covered course offering shooters many types of realistic shots from approximately 15 to 45 yards.
On the February schedule, the Frozen Foot 3D Shoot often finds our winter shooters another challenging course. While the practice range is open, the targets are frozen, so make sure you bring some good arrow pullers with you when you come to sight in for the new target season.
We need members for registration help for our upcoming shoots, contact Jerry Adams, our club Registrar to sign up. New CBH members are required to participate in a 3D shoot in their first year of membership.
We’ll be seeing you at the Cabin Fever 3D Shoot on March 22-23, 2008! Bring a camera
and take some pictures for the club newsletter and website. We’re in the process
of collecting pictures to post on in our Photo Gallery, so send those pictures in
to the webmaster!
We are now selling gift certificates for 3D shoots. Purchase 5 events for $50.00 and you’ll save $10.00. Regular price for 3D shoots are $12.00. Who doesn’t want to save money? Besides, it will be reason for you to get out there and shoot more, just like you said you were going to do.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE BOW BANTER
March 1, 2008
In February 1958, at one of our club’s infrequent meetings, held at Trinner’s Lounge in Cicero, club member Rosalie Fries had such a strong feeling that we needed a newsletter, that she stood up ready to take on the membership. “We need a club paper, and I’ll see that we get one if you’ll let me”, she said. So, in March 1958, with the blessings of that membership and the board, the first newsletter was published and she became it’s editor. Times sure have changed since those days, the good old days.

CBH’s own Stephanie Miller has the 2008 Olympics square in her sight.
Some of you may not know Stephanie and we aim to fix that!
Stephanie started shooting at CBH when she was 7 years old with her parents, Mark and Kathy Miller. She showed a talent for the sport and with lots of help from her parents and coaches, along with the incredible drive only found in champions, she has advanced through the ranks.
Her first coaches were her parents. Don Branson took over Stephanie’s development through the JOAD program at Auroraland JOAD in Batavia, now known as Chicagoland JOAD. When Don passed away in 2001, Ron McCormick took over as Stephanie’s coach and continues on as her coach to this day. Stephanie is quick to credit Ron as a very large part of the reason she has been able to advance as an Olympic caliber shooter.
Some of Stephanie’s accomplishments include: Bronze Medalist in the 2003 Pan American Games, team Gold Medal in the 2003 Pan American Games, and 12-time National Champion in her age division from 1995-2004. She has also participated on 8 international teams.
Stephanie is currently ranked 12th in the Olympic trials standings for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She will compete in early April where the field of 16 will be cut to 8. The finals will be in Arizona in May where the final 2 women Olympians will be selected.

INDOOR LEAGUE COMES TO A CLOSE
March 20, 2008.
Our indoor league has just concluded their 450 round competition.
The final shoot off on March 19 was as nerve-wracking as only an archer can understand!
In first place, Team No-Name, then, in second, Team Marx Brothers; in third place,
Team First Alert. Mike Filipiak thanks everyone who participated, and says, “til
next year...”
CBH TO HOST 3 FIELD SHOOTS
March 22, 2008.
Chicago Bow Hunters is scheduled to host 3 Field Shoots this summer.
The dates are June 15th, July 13, and August 10th. If you’ve never shot field before,
check out the NFAA website for classes and rules. Before 3D shoots, this was “the”
archery game since our club began. Marked yardages are as far as 80 yards, and as
close as 20 ft., if you think 20 ft. Is easy, see for yourself what little aiming
adjustments you need to make in order to shoot a target that close! Bring back this
time-honored sport to our club by coming out to shoot ‘field’.

TRACK STEPHANIE’S PROGRESS TOWARD BEIJING
April 9, 2008
Steph was 12th/16 in the 1st Nomination Shoot last September in Atlanta,
Georgia. The top 16 competed in the 2nd Nomination Shoot in Chula Vista, CA at the
Olympic Training Center. Over the first 3 days, they competed to make the cut to
the top 8. Steph tied for 5th, but lost in a one arrow shoot-off and finished in
6th.
The next two days the top 8 shot an Olympic Round (elimination matches) in
which Steph finished 2nd. As a result, she was 2nd in the rankings for this 2nd
Nomination Shoot. After the last day of the trials which consisted of 7 round robin
matches, Steph finished 3rd for the 2nd Nomination Shoot. Her final ranking from
this shoot was combined with her final ranking of the first shoot, so her final placement
is 5th. She will compete in Phoenix in May at the 3rd Nomination Shoot where they
will cut to the top 2 women and the top 3 men and name the U.S. Olympic Team.
