CBH is on a mission to bring field archery back! And why not? We have a gorgeous field course. No, it's not as big of an area as some of the other archery clubs, but that doesn't take away from it being a 5-star course; and fit for a challenging, scenic shoot for beginners and professional archers alike. We had 3 field shoots scheduled this year, and all 3 were very successful. The number of archers increased with every shoot, members and non-members alike.
As you enter the woods, and begin to shoot your first few targets, you realize, that this course was strategically set up; the pathway winds around and over creeks, bridges and hills. CBH's field course is unique. We are no longer going to abandon this part of archery, this is the sport of our grandfathers, and their grandfathers before them. We are going to keep this tradition alive for our children and theirs for years to come.
Field archery is something you can shoot recreationally, or you can make it a goal. The goal is here for 2008. This weekend, on August 23 & 24 in Chatham, Illinois, many will travel from around the state to compete in the grand finale field shoot of the year. Some of you came out to enjoy a round of field archery at the club, but behind the scenes, other archers have been practicing all year to be able to qualify for a top position in their class, and throughout the year, have been shooting the field archery circuit at the surrounding clubs.
This isn't an exclusive thing. Any of you can make this something to achieve, on a yearly basis. There is a real competition going on if you choose to join it. This was the way it was back in the day. If you need help getting started, just email one of the officers, or the tournament chairman. Usually you can find someone at the club that will lead you to the right place. It's not just for other people, its for you! Come out and experience the challenges and rewards that go along with this intricate sport of field archery.
Then come August, feel your nerves at their peak in the State Championship. There is no way to describe archery competition. You should feel how exciting it is when you have worked hard all year and you are standing next to someone you have to compete against!! ![]()
