Mayor Daley's Holiday Sports Festival
By admin on Dec 31, 2008 | In Announcements, JOAD

A few of our members participated in Mayor Daley's Holiday Sports Festival on December 27, 28, 29, 2008. The event was presented by the City of Chicago, Chicago Park District, and McCormick Place and featured sports of all kinds from fishing, soccer, football, badminton and any other type of sport you can think of, including Olympic oriented sports. This year was the first year archery was introduced at this event. The purpose of the fest is to introduce and encourage children of all ages to be involved in and maybe passionate about being involved in sports.
Certified archery instructors, Michele Hanson, Ken Walther, and other instructors taught kids 8 and up, and a few parents to shoot a bow. Member Cindy Lavender also came to help. Archery had a great turn-out, most people are curious or intrigued by the bow and arrow, and wanted to try it at least once so we had a steady line all weekend. Some kids were so hooked, they got in line several times to shoot again and again.
Claudia Stevenson, with Watching Arrows Fly, LLC hosted this event and is actively involved in reviving archery back into the mainstream. For more information about her program, or to become a certified archery instructor, please contact Claudia at claudia@archeryfocus.com or (800)-671-1140.
