Robert Taylor Bags a Nice Buck
By admin on Jan 22, 2009 | In Hunting

Robert Taylor’s whitetail taken on Nov. 11th in Oregon, IL. The shot was 17yds., and the buck went down in sight less than 50 yds. away.
I had just climbed to the top rung of the ladder stand when I saw the buck walking toward me through the woods, approximately 45 yds away! I was standing on the top step, facing the tree and in the process of removing my backpack. My PSE X-Force bow was tied to the end of the pull rope - at the bottom of the stand! What a dilema! Do I just watch the buck cruise by,or do I drop my back, pull up the bow, nock an arrow, draw the bow and take the shot? The buck is still walking, closing the distance between us. Do I have time? Adrenalin is up for sure! Or do I grab the camera and capture the moment on film?
I slipped into my best ninja mode, removing the pack, pulling up the bow, removing an arrow from the quiver, nocking the arrow, stepping on to the platform, drawing the bow and making a perfect double lung shot. The Jakhammer did it's job. And that's the rest of the story.
An additional note: Don Schultz took a nice button buck from the same stand later that same afternoon. Tender vittles for sure! Nice shooting, Don!
