HALF TIME AT THE FROZEN FOOT 3D SHOOT
By admin on Feb 21, 2009 | In Announcements, 3D
We woke up to a winter wonderland this morning, and 3D were on the minds of a few people this morning. First of all, there were the guys that signed up to work the registration desk, and Larry Sommers working ever so hard at kitchen duties. I stopped to pick up brownies at Donna Fischer's house (CBH's Official Brownie Baker) to bring to the shoot.
I walked into a room-full of aimless archers, most of them had already been out on the course. There are a few of us, who will brave the tundra to shoot a winter 3D, the few, the frozen. We choose to fling our arrows over Mike's moose, or under rather, to find it skidding through the snow and land unable to be seen with the naked eye because it is covered with an inch of snow. Our lost arrows, to be found by another member later in the summer who with his good deed, and charitable soul will bring it back to the lost arrow bin inside the clubhouse. ![]()
In winter 3D you have a few more excuses why your score isn't as high as it usually is. I will share these excuses with you so you can use them tomorrow.
- I had too much clothing on.
- My bow froze up, is your bow freezing up also?
- My arrow keeps catching on my bulky sleeve (or collar) every time I shoot.
- Ya know, it's harder to estimate yardage with snow on the ground.
- My binoculars/scope is fogged up.
- The target was covered with snow.
These are all valid excuses that will allow other people to know that if it wasn't so cold out, you could easily have shot 25 or more points higher.
I had started the first part of the course shooting alone, but quickly caught up with 3 trad shooters, (Grizzly Clark Chrisman, Diamond Dave Holquist, and Mountain Man Dick Strock) who welcomed me into their group. I was thrilled because this gave me the opportunity to show them that compound shooters, otherwise known to trad guys as Wheel Heads, can't always shoot better than bare bow guys just because we have all this fancy equipment. Which is where the official list of excuses came in real handy!
For all of you die-hard winter shooters who turn their scores in this weekend, I'd like to add your name to the Frozen Foot Hall of Fame, which will be published after all the scores are turned in.
Now, get on out there tomorrow the rest of you who were thinking about going but weren't too sure... yes it's cold out, yes it's early, but go out and make history! You might even win a brand new bow!
Oh, and Mr. Lorenz, where were you this morning?
