For those of you who love a challenge, especially in archery, you should give field archery a try. A full field course consists of 28 targets at marked distances. A total of 112 arrows are shot on varying terrain. If you want to be a good bow hunter, shoot 3D. If you want to be a great bow hunter, shoot field archery.

A note to CBH members and friends: The website events page has been updated to reflect the corrected dates for the upcoming events.

No 3D shoots are scheduled in August, and the July shoot has been named the Ed Cheske Field Shoot. I hope to see you all on Friday, June 5, 2009 to honor Ed in celebration of this dedication.

As part of the 'Breakfast Club', he still shoots at the club, and visits at least a couple of times a week, particularly, you will see him on Tuesday mornings. Ed has many stories to share about 'back in the day', when an archery tournament would bring 200-300 shooters and their family and friends. Ed Cheske was also a hunter, but it's been a long time since he has done that. He is possibly considering deer hunting with member and friend, Cindy Lavender this fall with a crossbow.

On Friday, June 5th, 2009, at the general members meeting, a certificate will be presented to Ed for the field shoot dedication. An invitation is extended to all the friends of Edward Cheske to come out on this special night to join him in celebration of his contribution to the club. If you have been touched by this special person, or if you just want to meet a legendary archer and hunter, please make an effort to come to the meeting. For some of our members who need assistance, who would love to come and see an old friend, a ride can be arranged.

In case you missed the meeting, our demonstration showed that penetration is very similar for both NAP’s new mechanical and new fixed blade broadheads into ballistic gel. NAP’s new broadheads were very impressive with their supper sharp and file-hard edge, 55 plus RC. These new broadheads truly did fly very close to our field points at 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards. The Braxe fixed blade, looks like a broadhead axe, and is very impressive with its six (6) cutting surfaces and best penetration of all broadheads tested. The Spitfire MAXX impressive 1-3/4" cutting surface did not negate the impressive penetration. And further testing at 45° angle into the ballistic gel showed excellent penetration and full deployment of the three blades, even into ½" plywood! The Blood Runner appears to provide the best of both fixed and mechanical broadheads. 1" cut on contact when closed and opens to 1-1/2". Best of all there is no concern about one of the blades popping open or blades not deploying as happened with our test. This is becoming a common complaint and concern with the Rage Broadhead users, (often referred to and know as the “Out-Raged” choice of Broadheads) I was and have now switched to Spitfire Maxx.
